Voda-Blog : May 2010 - All Hail the Hall!
The opening of NASCAR’s Hall of Fame has the Charlotte area buzzing.
And the festivities surrounding the madness, have me HOPPING!
I’m extremely honored that I was asked to be a part of all of the ceremonies and shows surrounding the HOF, including: Opening Day, The Induction Gala, and the Induction, itself.
Tuesday, May 11th was awesome. Mike Joy, Larry Mac, DW, Steve Byrnes, Jeff Hammond, and I covered the HOF opening with a 3 hour broadcast on Speed. The highlights for me were interviewing The King, talking with Jack Ingram, and getting DW to do The Icky Shuffle!
Next up, the Induction Gala which was held Thursday night of Induction week. It was set up like a mini-banquet, held in the new ballroom adjacent to the HOF. I emceed the evening, introducing Charlotte dignitaries like the mayor AND NASCAR dignitaries like CEO Brian France. I enjoyed hearing old stories from guys like Tom Higgins and Barney Hall. Can you believe Barney Hall has been covering the sport for 52 years?!
The week concludes with the Induction Ceremony, Sunday May 23rd. My role? I will be hosting a red carpet-style show prior to the Induction Ceremony. Picture the Oscars, but with a NASCAR twist! Then, after the ceremony, Larry Mac and I will host a 30-minute post-ceremony show. Should be plenty to talk about!
The month of May is always wild…but the HOF has turned our schedules and this town upside-down…in a fantastic way! Oh, I’ll be “filling in the gaps” by hosting the truck series pre-race show AND co-hosting the All-Star race Friday and Saturday nights. Whew!
Once the HOF activities have ended, will I take a break? No way! I’ll host The Hub from the Speed studios, co-host 3 episodes of Fast Track to Fame with Michael Waltrip, and cover practice-qualifying-and The Coca-Cola 600 to wrap up the busiest month in motorsports!
If you see me, and it looks like my hair is on fire….it probably is! But I love it!
